When my wife found out that there is a swap meet in Ontario, just a few miles away from our house, she was ecstatic. When we were still in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, we used to drive around the city looking for garage sales hoping to find things we can use in the house or re-sell when we have our own garage sale. We normally spend 3 hours for garage sales on some Saturdays. We also visit the Green Dragon in Ephrata many times since it’s always fun to find some things that you didn’t realize you need. So this swap meet in Ontario is called Maclin Markets. It’s one of California’s largest outdoor swap meet. They’re open Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30AM to 3:00PM. So one Saturday, we decided to go there and see what they are selling. We like it there. There’s a lot of sellers and thousands of products to check out in this market. They have clothes, bags, plants, toys, food, etc. They have a restaurant with a live band. It’s an outdoor market so it can get really hot there during summer but who cares really when you’re having fun looking around while eating peanuts you just bought from their popular peanut’s store. So the next day we went back and it was more crowded with more sellers and items. So if you like the crowd, Sunday is your day.
We’ve been going there almost every weekend then we realized that something is missing. I like to go there all the time but sometimes I’d like to know if the swap meet is actually selling an item that I want to buy. So we asked, why don’t we create something for the sellers to post their products and the customers to browse the products. Then the Swap Meet Shops app was born.
Swap Meet Shops’ mission is to provide a platform for sellers to show their products and let the customers browse the products. If a customer wants the product they can call the seller or just go to the swap meet and buy it.
After countless nights of designing, coding and testing the app, I published it to App Store and Google Play. Since the Maclin Markets is closer to our house, we decided to introduce this app there. Right now, the app has products from 14 vendors and more vendors are signing up to post their products to this app. If you are a seller from Maclin Markets, please visit the Swap Meet Shops website to download the app, sign up, and then create your store and start posting your products. This is a good way to promote your store and the more available products in the app, the better for the customers, and you too.
